Sulphuric Acid

Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is a strong, colourless, liquid mineral acid. It is an important industrial commodity, extensively used in oil refining, water treatment, uranium processing, inorganic acids production, metallurgical, fertilizer, pulp and paper industries.

Fluorsid consumes sulphuric acid for the production of hydrogen fluoride (HF) and manufactures it from molten sulphur by the “Double Contact Double Absorption” process. The reactions are highly exothermic, allowing the co-production of steam and electric power.

The plant was designed and built with the best available technologies and has a production capacity of 300,000 MT/y. The installation of this plant in 2002 made Fluorsid self-sufficient in terms of both its acid and electricity requirements.

The extra production of sulphuric acid is sold at a concentration of 98.5%, and is transported in bulk on tankers.
