History

Fluorsid S.p.A. was established in 1969 in Sardinia by Earl Carlo Enrico Giulini with the aim to confer added value to local raw materials, mainly the fluorspar coming from Silius mine, through the production of inorganic fluoro derivatives.

In 50 years of activity, Fluorsid has progressively increased its production capacity and acquired the role of world leader in its sector, overseeing the most important international markets.

The main milestones of its development have been:

1972 - start of production of synthetic cryolite and aluminium fluoride with wet process;

1988 - start-up of the first fluidised bed reactor for the production of aluminium fluoride with wet process;

2002 - start-up of the first plant for the production of sulfuric acid, steam and electricity;

2008 - the production site is integrated with the fourth reactor (at 2 fluid beds) for the production of aluminum fluoride;

2012 - construction of the fifth reactor for the production of aluminium fluoride, also with a double fluidized bed;

2013 - start-up of the second line of sulfuric acid, steam and electricity.
